How to Enroll at Homestead

For all students

Call the Homestead office at (805) 289-1893 to set up a pre-enrollment conference to discuss independent study for your child. This meeting can be in person, on the phone, or via tele-conference.

  • Starting Kindergarten or new to the district

  1. After a pre-enrollment conference is completed, families must complete the Pre-enrollment Application online.

  2. Families living within the Ventura Unified School District boundaries must also complete an Elementary Grades K-5 Intra-district Transfer Request and submit it to the Homestead office via email or in person. These are available in the office of Homestead or your boundary school and at the VUSD district office in Student Support Services.

  3. Families living outside of the Ventura Unified School District boundary must complete an inter-district transfer request.

  4. After the transfer is approved, the Homestead office will reach out to schedule a Master Agreement meeting where student, parent, and teacher discuss and sign the independent study contract in-person.

  • Ventura Unified School District boundary students in 1st-5th grade

  1. After a pre-enrollment conference is completed, complete an Elementary Grades K-5 Intra-district Transfer Request and submit it to the Homestead office via email or in person. These are available in the office of Homestead or your boundary school and at the VUSD district office in Student Support Services.

  2. After the transfer is approved, the Homestead office will reach out to schedule a Master Agreement meeting where student, parent, and teacher sign the independent study contract in-person. Once Homestead receives the completed registration paperwork including the intra-district transfer and two proofs of residency, the office manager at Homestead will reach out to the current school of enrollment and ask for a copy of the students’ scheduled courses (requested or enrolled) and request that the student be dropped so that the student can be available for enrollment at Homestead.

  • 6th-8th grade

Beginning in the ‘22-’23 school year, students requesting independent study at Homestead will need to contact a counselor or administrator at their home/boundary school to discuss placement at Homestead. The counselor/administrator will prepare a packet for the VUSD alternate placement committee. Placement review meetings occur every two weeks.  For students requesting Homestead who live outside the Ventura Unified School District boundary, the Homestead office will prepare a placement packet for your student once the inter-district transfer request has been made with Student Support Services at the Ventura Unified School District office.  After the placement request is approved, the Homestead office will reach out to schedule a Master Agreement meeting where student, parent, and teacher discuss and sign the independent study contract in-person.
